The U.S. National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) is a government agency dedicated to preserving and documenting government and historical records. Founded in 1934, NARA's mission is to provide public access to Federal Government records in a secure and controlled environment, while its vision is to drive openness, cultivate public participation, and strengthen our nation's democracy through public access to high-value government records. NARA is headquartered in Washington, D.C., with additional facilities, including regional archives, federal records centers, and presidential libraries located throughout the U.S.
